… walking tour over the roofs of Salzburg
The old city of Salzburg is embedded between the Capuchin– and the Monchs-mountain. The third one is called Rainberg … these 3 hills inspired a cook to create the famous ‘Salzburger Nockerl’ – a delicious soufflée-dessert, which you have to try, but this is another story J
Approx. 5 minutes walk from the Green Market we take a staircase up to the Mönchsberg … half way up we overview the Festival District, the Dome and St. Peter … upon arrival at the top we are inmidst a green hide-out with great views to all directions.
We continue our walk passing by the little private castle ‘Kupplwieserschlössl’ and the so-called Stuppa (special location of the Buddhist community) to finally end up at the fortress ‘Hohensalzburg’ … in the opposite direction we find the ‘Stadtalm’ and the famous restaurant m32 in the Museum of Modern Art and following the ancient pilgrimage path we end up at the Salzburg Hofbräuhaus called ‘Müllner Bräu’, where we taste a divine drink and some local specialities …
The Kapuzinerberg (Capuchin mountain) is the more originate and wild pendant to the open-minded Mönchsberg. We take the old pilgrims’s path (following the rosary chapels) or the ‘dark staircase’ from the old Steingasse. During our walk through the forest we’ll meet the famous painter Oskar Kokoschka, the writer Stefan Zweig and ‘Woiferl’ (our nick-name for Wolfgang Amadeus) and if we’re lucky we can even discover some chamois … … once we arrive at the ‘Franziskischlössl’ we really deserve a culinary surprise
At the Rainberg we have a vineyard again since 2012 – the so-called ‘Monchs-mountain-sparkling’ – let’s have a taste of this outstanding local speciality!
Another suggestion is a hiking tour at the Gaisberg (3.800 ft/1.300 m hight). The circular trail opens fascinating views of … and in the ‘ZistelAlm’ another culinary surprise is waiting for us!
